Filters & Comparisons
Drill into your data by filtering reports and comparing time periods.
Filtering by clicking a row
Click any row in any report table on the dashboard to instantly filter the entire dashboard by that value. For example, clicking "United States" in the Countries report will show only traffic from US visitors across every metric and chart.
Stackable filters
Filters are stackable — you can add multiple filters at the same time to narrow down your data further. For example, filter by country = US and then click Chrome in the Browsers report to see only US visitors using Chrome.
Available filter types
You can filter your dashboard by any of the following dimensions:
- Location: Country, Region, City
- Technology: Browser, Operating System, Device type
- Acquisition: Referrer, UTM Source, UTM Medium, UTM Campaign
- Content: Page
- Goals: Goal name
- Custom properties: Any custom property you send with events
Managing active filters
Active filters appear as pills at the top of the dashboard. Each pill shows the filter dimension and value. Click the "x" on any pill to remove that individual filter.
When multiple filters are active, a "Clear all" link appears so you can reset the dashboard to its unfiltered state in one click.
Period-over-period comparison
Click the "Compare" button in the date picker area to enable period-over-period comparison. You can compare against:
- Previous Period: compares the selected date range against the immediately preceding period of the same length.
- Year over Year: compares against the same date range one year ago.
What changes in comparison mode
When a comparison is active, the six overview metrics (Unique Visitors, Total Pageviews, Views per Visit, Bounce Rate, Visit Duration, and Total Visits) each display a percentage change indicator showing whether the metric increased or decreased relative to the comparison period.
The traffic chart also shows a comparison overlay — the previous period's data appears as a lighter line behind the current period, making it easy to spot trends and changes at a glance.
